Pedagogy with elements of applied learning is fundamental for a quality engineering education. Traditionally, an applied learning curriculum, at the course-level involves engaging students through a) guided laboratory sessions and b) real-world problem based projects. The concept of “industry lab” is introduced within a course, as a third element to further augment the applied learning methodology and the associated student learning experience. Course development and delivery for a course on Radio Frequency Engineering and Electromagnetic Compatibility as part of a specialized undergraduate degree program with all the three elements of applied learning is presented. The unique element of the course, the industry lab session, has been developed and offered in collaboration with an industry partner. Results from qualitative evaluation based on feedback received through student survey clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of such an industry lab session over traditional guided laboratory sessions and project based learning in augmenting their experiential learning.
