There is an increasing trend in higher education on the emphasis on competency-based education (CBE). It is recog?nized that CBE can be highly effective in training industry-ready graduates. An important component of developing CBE courses is the design and planning of appropriate competency-based assessments. While assessment methods have been well-studied in general, the practical aspects of planning how assessments map to competencies in a course and how to feasibly implement an assessment plan in real-time has been less studied. In this paper, we look at practical strategies to map and implement competency-based assessments in computing education by pre?senting examples applied to courses with topical or topic-agnostic competencies.
