Employing Artificial Intelligence for Enhanced Anatomy Dissection and Surgical Training

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the landscape of anatomy and surgical training. AI's capabilities transcend the limitations of human vision in anatomy dissection and surgical planning, unveiling a multitude of possibilities by offering innovative solutions to longstanding challenges. In anatomy education, AI is facilitating the development of 3D anatomical models for virtual dissections. These advancements address the dearth of cadavers for dissection. They provide a unique advantage of virtual dissection remotely during free time without visiting the dissection hall. Using the human anatomy data from CT and MRI of different individuals AI tools like 3D slicer, Tempus radiology, etc. can also give an experience of the anatomical variations that are come across during dissection. This is one of the most important advantage that cadaveric dissection gives over any virtual dissection tables. AI assisted assessment tools like Moodle with AI plugins, and Gradescope by Turnitin streamline evaluation processes, providing personalized feedback and adaptive testing to cater to individual learning needs. It makes evaluation faster and easier especially when evaluating large groups of students. In surgical practice, AI-driven technologies such as VR-based surgical planning tools and handheld portable ultrasound systems integrated with AI are transforming preoperative planning and diagnostic imaging. It is employed in online simulations of surgeries and autopsies, offering trainees opportunities to enhance their practical skills in a controlled environment. While embracing the potential of AI it is essential to recognize the importance of maintaining human-centric approaches as this enhances personalised learning based on students' learning styles and pace. In conclusion, the integration of AI, holds immense promise in advancing anatomical education and surgical practice. Harnessing the potential of AI tools to integrate the variability and uncertainty of human anatomy will pave way for development of effective dissection and surgical planning software.
