Active
learning is an instructional approach to engage students in the learning process,
a teaching strategy that promotes learner autonomy. It is a form of
student-centred learning that moves learners from receiving knowledge to
producing knowledge. Creating an active learning classroom environment
involves setting up an authentic context for learning. My talk
highlights the use of poster presentations in a writing class to create an active
learning classroom environment. I will share my students’ feedback on the
activity as well as my reflections on the place of poster sessions in a writing
curriculum, including the implications that an active learning classroom has for
student and teacher roles.
