Interactive Visualization-Based E-learning Aids for Vector Calculus
Vector Calculus is an important topic in a typical engineering mathematics curriculum. Acquiring both conceptual and procedural knowledge in this abstract topic is required to understand and apply relevant techniques in solving engineering problems. With the objective of bridging the gap between conceptual and procedural elements in vector calculus a set of e-learning aide with visual representation of the involved abstract concepts has been developed. Effectiveness of such tools is enhanced if it is capable of serving students with varied learning modalities. To accomplish that, interactive elements are included in the design of the e-learning content, promoting experiential learning in students. Factors considered in the development tool include the simplicity of adoption of the aids through integration with online learning management system. The context of adopting the platform in a particular course and the qualitative assessment through student feedback, on the effectiveness of the developed learning tools are discussed.
