This study investigates the role of empowering practices in the adoption of assistive technology (AT) by adults with physical and/or visual disabilities, drawing insights from both AT users and professionals. Through thematic analysis of interviews, three core themes emerged: personal goals guiding complex decisions, social networks as critical for navigation, and challenges in accessing resources and involving persons with disabilities (PwDs) in policy development. Findings reveal that empowerment stems from meaningful participation, social support, and evolving socio-political engagement, highlighting the vital role of Occupational Therapy in supporting empowered AT adoption practices.
