The human brain naturally expects the five senses to be correlated and coherent. Immersive multimedia that adheres closely to this physical expectation will naturally be more believable. While sensory mismatches could be introduced deliberately to convey different experiences to a user, unless managed well, they lead to a degraded virtual experience and are thus usually best avoided. This keynote will consider AI in the context of sensory correlation, as well as some approaches for ensuring consistency, particularly between sound and sight in a virtual avatar scenario.
