Practical-Oriented Teaching in Naval Architecture via Blended and Project-based Learning
This paper presents an overview of a practical-oriented teaching methodology focusing on the blended and project-based learning approach to enhance students' fundamental in naval architecture and its application in solving applied engineering problems. Students were taught on the theoretical aspects in the first trimester with the aid of blended learning, i.e. a naval architecture quest created specifically for the module. A practical project was then planned in the second trimester to assess students' fundamental in solving engineering problems. The paper will highlight the effectiveness of this practical oriented teaching methodology which comprised components of blended and project-based learnings in strengthening students' fundamental for solving applied-engineering problems. The assessment results based on students feedback, examination performance, team peer evaluation and student's self-reflection report are presented.
