Electric Vehicle Development in Singapore and Technical Considerations for Charging Infrastructure

chapter
posted on 2023-09-27, 05:02 authored by Xue FengXue Feng

This chapter is dedicated to detailing the development and findings in the EV Phase 2 test-bedding and more recent development beyond EV Phase 2. The overall content includes a few piloting projects that focus on fleet electrification including a nationwide EV car-sharing program, and electric bus and electric taxi trials. Built upon the findings from the EV Phase 1 test beddings and directions outlined in the roadmap, the EV Phase 2 with a focus on fleet electrification was commissioned. There are two dominant charging couplers in the IEC 62196: Type 1 and Type 2. Comparison between Type 1 and Type 2 charging plugs and power ratings are shown. The advantages of Type 2 over Type 1 are analyzed from perspectives of the charging time and other aspects. In addition to the cost of assets, installation cost constitutes one of the main cost components.
